William H. “Billy” Atwell (2010)
Billy is President of Atlee Development, Inc., a real estate company that develops and owns medical office buildings throughout the United States. Raised in San Antonio, Billy attended St. Luke’s Episcopal School as a young child. He is a longtime member of the Texas Cavaliers, an organization of civic and community leaders that supports local children’s charities, and has served that organization as Parade Marshal, Commander and King Antonio LXXXVI. In addition, Billy has served as a member of the Young Entrepreneurs Organization, a commissioner and member of the Fiesta San Antonio Commission, and a director of the Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation and the San Antonio River Foundation. Billy is a graduate of Bradford College in Massachusetts. He and his wife, Wendy, have three daughters who attend St. Luke’s -- Annie (7th), Cita (6th) and Ally (K).
Bridget Booth (2010), Parent Council President
Bridget is a Project Manager for Clark Construction Group, a national firm currently managing projects at both the San Antonio International Airport and at Fort Sam Houston. She is responsible for project procurement, outreach efforts and compliance with respect to small, minority and women owned subcontracting activities. Bridget is involved with the National Association of Women in Construction, Business Opportunities for Texans, Associated General Contractors, and the South Central Texas Regional Certification Agency. She recently completed a two-year term as the Parent Council Treasurer and is honored to have been elected the 2009-2010 Parent Council President. Bridget is married to Mike and they are the proud parents of Keegan (2nd) and Jaxon (K).
Jenifer Brown (2010)
Jenifer has been a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church since 1996. She is a native of San Antonio and graduated from the University of the Incarnate Word in 1996. She has been an active real estate agent since 1998 and is a REALTOR with RE/MAX Preferred. Jenifer has been married to Will since October 1996 and they are the proud parents of St. Luke’s student Claire (1st). Her other board experiences include the Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas, Friends of Hospice, Chair of Poinsettia Ball, Military-Civilian Club, Cancer Center Council, The Revelers and the Southwest Foundation Forum.
Ted Burkhart (2010)
Ted has been a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church since 1997 and has held many leadership roles in the parish: Senior Warden, Stewardship Chair, Endowment Committee Chair, and member of the Columbarium Committee and the 2009 Rector Search Committee. For the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas Ted has served on the Executive Board and held leadership roles with the Finance Committee, Department of Stewardship, Mission Engagement Committee, Diocese of West Texas Foundation, Church Corporation, Lay Ministry Commission and is currently Treasurer of the Diocese. Ted co-chairs the United Way of San Antonio Stewardship Review Team. Ted is Senior Vice-President/Financial Advisor for RiverStone Wealth Management. Ted and his wife, Weetia, have a daughter, Traci Burkhart Gomez, who is Executive Director of The Children's Bereavement Center of South Texas.
Bette Foster (2010)
Bette lived in Del Rio, Texas, for many years and was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church. She was the founder of St. James Episcopal School (PK-8) in 1955 after graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. in Early Education. Bette led, taught, and served in Christian Education positions in both school and church for over 50 years. Bette and her late husband, John, moved to San Antonio in 2004 and immediately became members of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, where she continues to worship. Bette is the proud mother of four and grandmother of nine (including two fifth graders at St. Luke’s Episcopal School). She was chosen Texas Mother of the Year in 1977 by the American Mothers Association and enjoys working to keep St. Luke’s Episcopal School alive and well for future generations.
Diane Greiner, M.D. (2012)
Diane has been a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church since 2002. She teaches Godly Play and is also an assistant den leader for the church cub scout group. She earned a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame and an M.D. from Duke University School of Medicine. She completed her cardiology training while on active duty with the Air Force, and now works in private practice as a cardiologist with South Texas Cardiovascular Consultants. She and her husband, Michael, have two children at St. Luke’s -- Mikayla (4th) and Garrett (2nd).
James L. “Jaimie” Hayne, Jr. (2012)
Jaimie is CEO of Catto & Catto LLP, an insurance, risk management and employee benefits agency. Jaimie is also actively involved in a number of community organizations including the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. Jaimie graduated from Washington & Lee University and obtained an M.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin. Most importantly, Jaimie and his wife, Allison, have three children who attend St. Luke's: Claire (7th), Ana (6th) and Sarah (3rd).
Almeda Hodge (2011)
Almeda has been a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church since 1957 and is a former St. Luke’s Episcopal School student. She has served several terms on the Board of Trustees, holding the offices of Chair, Secretary and Parent Council Chair. She holds a B.A. from Southern Methodist University and is a former Spanish and French teacher at her alma mater, Alamo Heights High School. She also worked for 13 years in the Spanish Department of StarNet Satellite Network, a distance learning provider. She and her husband Ed are the parents of two St. Luke’s graduates, Ned (30) and Chris (29). Almeda is active with several St. Luke’s Episcopal Church committees as well as numerous community boards and organizations.
Claude Koontz (2011)
Claude and his wife, Jessica, have been members of St. Luke's Episcopal Church since 1999 and have two children at the school, Henry (8th) and Serena (7th). Claude is president of Austin, Calvert & Flavin, a San Antonio-based investment advisory firm; he has worked in the financial services sector for over 20 years. Claude is past president of the St. Peter - St. Joseph Children's Home Board of Governors and is active in local organizations such as Boy Scouts, Junior Achievement, and Little League. Claude received a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin and an M.B.A. from Tulane University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
Betty Lansdale (2012)
Betty and her husband, Daryl, have been St. Luke’s Episcopal School parents for 10 years; they are the proud parents of Kelsey (7th) and Trey (5th). Betty has served St. Luke’s Episcopal School over the years in many capacities including: Parent Council Vice President of Families, 6th Grade Dance Chair, Get Connected Chair, Marketing Committee, Auction Party Committee, Book Fair Volunteer, Dad’s Night Volunteer, PSIA, Room Parent, and most recently Annual Fund Chair. Betty received her B.B.A. from Texas A&M University in 1989 and her J.D. from the SMU School of Law in 1992.
Larry Martin (March 2009), Church-School Liaison
Larry is a long-time resident of San Antonio and Sr. Vice President-Investments with Smith Barney. He has had an active interest in St. Luke's Episcopal School for 20 years. Larry was a member of the Capital Campaign Committee to fund and build the Chris Jones Middle School at St. Luke’s. Three grandchildren began at St. Luke's at age two (2); one graduated in the inaugural middle school class and another in the succeeding class. He is an active member of St. Luke's Church, having served the parish as Senior Warden, and is a current member of the Vestry where he has served for two years on the school board as Church/School Liaison.
Marlene Merritt (2012)
Marlene has been a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church since 1997 and has been a Vestry member and leader on various committees. Marlene worked for IBM Corporation in various capacities including being selected as the first female marketing representative for IBM in the northwest region of the U.S. She also served IBM in marketing management, corporate executive education, and customer strategic planning. Presently she has a small commercial real estate company. Marlene is active in the community, including the American Diabetes Association. She is Treasurer of the Warm Springs Foundation Board and an officer in the Alamo Heights Rotary Club.
Julie Perez (2010), Vice Chair
Julie is a partner with the law firm of Oppenheimer, Blend, Harrison and Tate, Inc., where she practices part-time. She has been vice president of the St. Luke’s Episcopal School Parent Council twice and has served in other Parent Council roles. Julie and her husband, Bobby, have three children who attend St. Luke’s Episcopal School – Christopher (8th), Brianna (6th), and Nicholas (5th). Julie earned a B.B.A. in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin and a J.D. from St. Mary’s School of Law.
The Rev. David Read, Rector
David became Rector of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church & School on June 1, 2009, after serving more than 10 years as Rector of St. Helena’s Episcopal Church in Boerne. A native of San Antonio, David is a 1988 graduate of Texas State University with a B. A. in History and received a Masters in Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary in 1992. David is active in the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas and serves on the Standing Committee. He is the Diocesan Secretary, a delegate to General Convention, a Trustee of the Church Corporation and a member of the Diocesan Development Board. David is married to Jacqueline and they are the proud parents of Amy, who attends TMI-The Episcopal School of Texas (10th), and Aidan, a 6th grader at St. Luke’s Episcopal School.
Mark Reford, D.Phil., Head of School
Mark became the Head of School at St. Luke’s Episcopal School in June 2009. He is the former Head of School at the City Collegiate Public Charter School in Washington, DC and the former Academic Dean at Sidwell Friends School (also in DC). Dr. Reford has consulted with Education Testing Services (Princeton, NJ) and with the Washington, DC, public school system. He has teaching experience in high school and middle school classrooms and has taught at the college level in England and Moscow. He holds a D. Phil., M.S. and B.A. in English Language and Literature from the University of Oxford, England. He and his wife Lisa are the proud parents of Emma (6th) and Saskia (3rd).
Rollins Rubsamen, Jr. (2010)
Rollins is a partner and Senior Investment Consultant with The Quantitative Group, a boutique consulting firm that oversees the investments for a select group of families and institutions throughout the state. Rollins is a native of San Antonio; he attended Alamo Heights High School and graduated from Texas A&M in 1983 with a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering and a Commission in the U.S. Army. He is married to Heather and they have two sons who attend St. Luke's Episcopal School – Brandon (3rd) and Colton (K).
Dudley Snyder (2010)
Dudley is President of the New Braunfels Smokehouse, a 64-year-old meat processing, mail order, internet and restaurant operation based in New Braunfels. Dudley is a graduate of Phillips Academy in Andover, MA, and has a business and law degree from the University of Texas in Austin. Dudley and his wife, Sue, were married in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in 1968 and now have two granddaughters attending the school. He is a past President of the Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation.
Jill Vassar (2011), Chair
Jill is an organizational development consultant and a former Vice President of the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation. She has served St. Luke’s Episcopal School in many capacities, including as Parent Council President and the chair of the 2008 Head of School Search Committee. Her community leadership includes the Boards of the Cancer Center Council, the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research Founder’s Council, the Summer Dreams Foundation, the Witte Game Dinner, and the former Baptist Hospital System Associates’ Council. Jill is a former member of the Executive Board of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas and chaired the Centennial Diocesan Council in 2004. She graduated cum laude from Wellesley College. Jill and her husband, George, are active members of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and the proud parents of Margaret (7th) and Caroline (3rd).
Ben Vaughan IV (2011)
Ben teaches economics at Trinity University, having received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Stanford University and his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley. He grew up in Austin and graduated from St. Stephen’s Episcopal School. Ben and his wife, Catherine, have three children; Daniel and Patrick, twin boys, are in the 3rd grade at St. Luke’s Episcopal School.
Ann D. Wells (2010), Treasurer
Ann has been a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church since 1966 and has served on the Vestry, as Vestry Treasurer, and as President of the Women of St. Luke’s. She has served on the St. Luke’s Episcopal School Board twice; she has been Chair (twice), Vice-Chair, Treasurer and Secretary of the Board. She is a CPA in public practice and is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. Her children, David (34) and Laura (30), are graduates of SLES. Her other Board experience includes Morningside Ministries and the Children’s Shelter.
